Villages

The towns in the Arabba ski area each have their own charm. What they all share is quick access to the ski lifts and pistes – and in summer, they’re perfect starting points for breathtaking Dolomite hikes.

Arabba is a winter sports paradise for all disciplines. Whether snowshoeing, fast descents, cross-country skiing or ice climbing – it’s all possible here. In summer too, Arabba never gets dull. Located at the base of the Sella Massif, the village offers incredible views of the Dolomite peaks. At 1,602 metres, Arabba boasts charming hotels, cosy flats, and restaurants serving South Tyrol’s finest dishes.

A visit to Laste is a must for Dolomite lovers who appreciate exceptional views. The panorama includes Civetta, Pelmo, Col di Lana and Tofane, making Laste a peaceful gem and a great base for scenic hikes. The area features well-kept meadows and larch forests, along with monoliths like the Sass de Rocia.

The Passo Campolongo is one of four Dolomite passes you cross on the Sellaronda. At 1,875 metres above sea level, it’s the lowest of the four, but still offers stunning views of Corvara and the rugged Sella cliffs. It connects Livinallongo del Col di Lana in Belluno with Corvara in South Tyrol.

Livinallongo del Col di Lana (or Fodòm in Ladin) consists of several hamlets. Among them is Pieve, the main village in the Val Cordevole, centred around a church dedicated to St. James Superior. Nestled between the Passo Pordoi, Passo Campolongo and Passo Falzarego, it marks the boundary between the provinces of Belluno, Trentino and South Tyrol.

The Passo Pordoi links Arabba (Belluno) with Canazei in Val di Fassa (Trentino), offering a breathtaking view of the Marmolada. At 2,239 metres, it’s the second-highest Dolomite pass. The terrain east of the pass was a World War I battlefield. Today, a museum at the base of the cable car commemorates that dramatic chapter of history.

A stay in the Dolomite village of Sottoguda feels like stepping back in time. With its traditional wooden barns (“Tabièi”), vibrant artisan culture and the Faièr beech forest, this is pure nostalgia. In 2016, Sottoguda was named one of “Italy’s Most Beautiful Villages.” In winter, it’s a hotspot for ice climbers who tackle the nearby natural gorge near the Marmolada lift station.

Stay right by the slopes in Malga Ciapela, situated at 1,450 metres above sea level. Local hotels offer direct access to the piste. From Malga Ciapela, the Marmolada cable car takes you to Punta Rocca. At the Serauta mid-station, you’ll find a World War I museum where you can learn about the dramatic battles fought in the Dolomites.

Rocca Pietore is the perfect destination for Dolomite fans who prefer a peaceful getaway. This quiet town at the foot of the Marmolada offers accommodation for every budget. In addition to skiing in Arabba – Marmolada, the Serrai di Sottoguda nature reserve invites you to explore a beautiful alpine landscape.
